PURPOSE To alert people in the Blue Ride and surrounding areas of threatening weather conditions, so you can prepare for threatening weather or take immediate safety as to protect lives and property. OBJECTIVE: To report any threatening weather conditions in your area to the Net controller for the safety of the community in which we live OPERATION: Depending upon the severity of the reports received, the Net Controller of the Blue Ridge Weather Watch, may enter into an activation mode when deemed necessary to do so. OPERATING FREQUENCIES 145.450 and 145.190 - MHz No tone 444.075 + MHz 88.5 H Tone (not available at this time) REPORTING PROCEDURES: ( 1 ) Ham radio operators - Give your call sign when reporting into the net. When reporting severe weather, please give your name and the location of the event you are reporting. For instance, a cross street or nearest intersection, not your home address. ( 2 ) Give details of what the threat is. For instance, very strong winds, size of the hail in inches, object was struck by lightening, Tree limbs 3 inches or larger broken off by winds, very heavy flooding, standing water in the roads that is hindering the flow of traffic, ice on trees and or power lines, snow in roadways or driveways, etc. ADVISORIES - WATCHES - WARNINGS ADVISORY An advisory is issued for things such as. ( 1 ) An "Air Quality Index" advisory ( 2 ) A "No Burn" is issued because of severe dry and strong windy conditions. WATCHES Conditions are favorable for a severe weather event in or near the watch area. Watches are issued for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods. When a watch is issued for your area, you should start listening to a NOAA weather radio, TV or a local station for further updates and possible warnings. WARNINGS The severe weather event is imminent or occurring in the warned areas. Warnings are issued for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, flash floods and river flooding. When a warning has been issued for your area, TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION for your safety and the safety of your loved ones and neighbors. Severe weather is unpredictable and not something you want to take a chance with.
