The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

  • Severe Thunderstorm Warning for…
    Southwestern Catawba County in the Piedmont of North Carolina…
    Southeastern Burke County in western North Carolina…

  • Until 500 PM EDT.

  • At 354 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles south of
    Morganton, or near South Mountains State Park, moving east at 20
    mph.

    HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

    SOURCE…Radar indicated.

    IMPACT…Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind
    damage to trees and power lines.

  • Locations impacted include…
    Longview, Icard, Hildebran, South Mountains State Park, Mountain
    View, Propst Crossroads, Pleasant Grove, Cooksville and Hickory.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A few trees and power lines will be blown down in the warned area.
Hail can cause major property damage, especially to vehicles. Seek
shelter inside an interior room.
